The Kivimies area in Otaniemi, Espoo, was studied over four hectares to meet the needs of changing land use. With the new zoning plan, the shoreline needed to be moved further out.
In the first phase of the survey, we carried out an underwater survey, and in the second phase we focused on a precision survey of the surface areas. Particular attention was paid to the character and date of two structures on the shore.
One of the most significant findings of the study was the extent of the stone pier on the beach. The pier appears on the map as early as the early 19th century, but it may be older. We identified the pier as a heritage site, so it is left as an unfilled area in the zoning plan. No new antiquities were found during the underwater survey.
