We created the inventory models of the almost 200-year-old main building of Lapinlahti Hospital and the slightly younger Venetian and sauna buildings for a demanding renovation and conversion project. The site has been built in phases and the building components are different in different parts of the building, which required careful modelling and knowledge of the building’s history.
In the project, we created an inventory model using point cloud data that is more than 10 years old. We measured the buildings with a tachymeter and placed the point cloud on the city coordinate system. Based on the point clouds, we built YTV Level 2 building component models and a geospatial model for the design project. Certain building elements and facades were refined to YTV Level 3 detail.
A large-scale renovation of a hospital building requires comprehensive and reliable initial data. The laser scan and the inventory model will be updated during the project, including after the demolition and structural opening phases.
