Metro square is an office and commercial building designed by Gullichsen-Vormala architects, which was completed in two phases in the 1990s on top of Ruoholahti metro station. The lower floor is commercial space and the upper floors are offices. The architecture of the building is industrial and graphic.
The space on the second and third floors of Metro square, originally used as an office, was mainly converted into meeting space for a company that organises meetings, training and events.
The atrium on the second floor was transformed from a cold break room into an active meeting space, accommodating events for 400 people. Around the atrium, a social interaction zone was created. The spaces, originally based on double corridors, were combined into spacious, easily adaptable meeting rooms.
The old steel staircase was removed and recycled for reuse. The conversion required the construction of a new main staircase. The design of the modifications involved a careful study of the building’s spatial structure and technical installations, which helped to avoid unnecessary changes and costs.
