Archaeological fieldwork services

The Finnish Antiquities Act dictates that each general land usage and zoning project must consider the projects’ possible impact on known archaeological and other cultural sites in the area. Our archaeology team conducts archaeological surveys, which produce up-to-date records on the quantity, condition, location and the scale of the archaeological sites in the area. When the land use changes, our team can then switch over to conducting excavations on the identified archaeological sites, uncovering their history and attributes before new land use.

Archaeological survey

Archaeological surveys are a vital part of land use projects like zoning, construction of new power lines or road networks. In archaeological surveys, our archaeologists generally employ the non-destructive archaeological methods, which form a comprehensive picture of the archaeological sites in the area without damaging them. This enables the protection of archaeological sites already in the early stages of the project.

Archaeological excavations

Usually, prospective archaeological excavations consist of several smaller excavation areas or pits, which aid in forming a cohesive understanding of the site’s scale and its possible connections to other findings. In larger excavations, our archaeologists systematically excavate the area while documenting the finds and phenomena to form a comprehensive understanding of the archaeological site.

We support the landowners in the processes and produce the necessary inquiries for different use-cases.

Archaeological supervision services

In archaeological supervision services, our archaeologists monitor the machine excavations in land use projects and halt it for the duration of the necessitated archaeological documentation when warranted. Archaeological supervision services are most needed in the areas where the land use occurs in the vicinity of complex archaeological sites, such as historical town centres.

Services for energy companies

Our archaeology team conducts high-quality precision and ground surveys for different types of energy-related projects. We provide a customized implementation plan for projects ranging from new green energy plants to the planning and implementation of new power distribution networks. We generate considerably denser LiDAR raw data and resultant ground contour mapping than the NLS (National Land Survey of Finland); our quality directly translates to quicker and more efficient in-person ground surveys and increased usage variety of the data.

Measuring and rendering

Our experts are proficient in specialised methods such as aerial LiDAR landscape scanning and automated point cloud data processing. In addition, we produce a range of landscape profiles, photogrammetry, and aerial images using specialised high-precision measuring equipment.
